The Fashion Rock assignment was about a singer who has a great influence on fashion. So I chose Amr Diab. Do you know who Amr Diab is?
Amr Diab is an Egyptian artist (singer, musician, composer, actor, and recently a 34 brand founder and owner) who was born on October 11, 1961 in Port Said, Egypt. He got a degree in Arabic Music from Cairo Academy in 1986. Amr Diab was only 6 years old when he was awarded by Port Said Governor for his outstanding performance at an important festival then (amrdiab.net, 2021). His first start was in 1983 when he was still an undergraduate student. His first hit was “Nour El Ain” in 1996 as it was translated into 7 languages.
Since his appearance on the Egyptian TV in 1983, he has created a unique and distinctive style of blending Western and Egyptian music. Amr Diab popularity is not only limited to Egypt or the Middle East countries but extended to Europe and North America too because of several hits. He also appeared in advertisements with some famous names, for example, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears & Beyoncé.
He has over 1.4 billion views on YouTube and more than 34 million followers on his official accounts on Facebook and Instagram. His pop style has been influencing millions of his fans. I personally liked some of his hits “Wala Ala Balo”, “We Malo”, “Qusad Einy”, “Amarain”, “Sebt Faragh Kebeer”, and “Tamally Maak”. The iconic superstar photo was shown on a Spotify’s Billboard in Times Square, New York (Magazine Flair, 2019) because his massive listening base is US as number 1 followed by Sweden and Germany respectively.
Amr Diab is not only a well-known iconic superstar in music but also in altering men’s fashion for years. He has influenced millions for the last three decades in terms of embracing different colours and styles including hair styles. If you google “Amr Diab”, you will read “The Legend” and “Father of Mediterranean Music” as well as “The King of Arab Pop” to refer to his tremendous influence. One of his iconic looks would be a fitted T-shirt, sunglasses, a top hat, shorts, denim jeans, and his tattoos. Recently he launched his own brand as illustrated in the below pictures. He named his brand “34” after the birth year of his parents whom he loved so much. Amazon Egypt, Amazon Saudi, and Amazon Emirates promote for his fashion line “34” products which are: apparel, accessories, eye wear, leather goods, and his unisex perfume.“34” targets the young generation.
The iconic superstar broke the recorded number in the annual World Music Awards when he won 7 World Music Awards and was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2016. Amr Diab kids: Jana and his twins (Abdullah and Kinzy) are known for being social media influencers in terms of fashion according to Vogue magazine (2018; 2017).
